The Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, has restated his commitment to zero tolerance of fake and substandard products in the Country.
Odumosu, who spoke at the opening ceremony 2013 SON Management Retreat with the theme, ‘Standards Organisation of Nigeria Growing its Relevance to Business and Society’ on Monday, expressed happiness with the turn of events in the organisation in the past two years.
According to him, SON is a research-based organisation, which like other standards bureaux, is the process driver of the economy. He also enjoined Nigerians to be part of the drive since standardisation is a task for all, if Nigeria must be relevant in global economy.
“SON is poised to take Nigeria to the next level through the promotion and development of standards and quality assurance activities, which will in turn boost the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises seen as agents of economic change,” he said.
He said SON’s Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme would be reviewed in line with the present realities while doing its best to ensure that businesses in Nigeria were promoted in such a manner that the society was not adversely affected.
Odumosu said programmes such as the Zero Tolerance to Sub-standard Products, E – Product Registration, rejuvenation of SONCAP, Sensitisation rallies and opening of market desks were some initiatives put in place to support the idea.
He also urged staff not to relent in their efforts but rather put in their best to achieve the mission and vision of the organisation, geared towards improving life through standards.
