In a society where many women silently battle substance dependency and its ripple effects, Baobab Microfinance Bank is stepping forward with more than words, with action. Through its partnership with the Compassionate Care Recovery Initiative, the bank has launched Deborah’s Haven, a dedicated rehabilitation and reintegration centre designed to help women reclaim their lives.
Located in Lagos, Deborah’s Haven was created to meet a critical need: providing women with a safe, structured, and stigma-free environment where recovery is not just possible, but sustainable. For many of these women, the journey to healing is often complicated by societal judgment and a lack of support systems. This initiative aims to change that reality.
At its core, Deborah’s Haven goes beyond rehabilitation. It is a place of rebuilding, and empowerment for women. Through psychosocial support, skills development programmes, and guided reintegration pathways, beneficiaries are equipped to rediscover their confidence and return to society with renewed purpose.
This effort is a clear reflection of Baobab Microfinance Bank’s commitment to Social Performance Management, ensuring that its role in society extends beyond financial inclusion to addressing the deeper challenges that impact economic participation.
Speaking at the launch, Board Member and Director at Baobab Microfinance Bank, Eneni Oduwole, emphasized the need for the intervention: “Baobab Microfinance Bank Nigeria, we often speak about our Triple P commitment; People, Planet and Profit. Today, Deborah’s Haven stands as a living expression of that commitment.”
CEO of Baobab Microfinance Bank, Eric Ntumba also echoed this vision, highlighting the broader impact: “When we invest in women, especially at vulnerable stages, we are investing in stronger families and more resilient communities. This is how lasting economic growth is built.”
Dr. Dokun Adedeji, CEO of the Compassionate Care Recovery Initiative, described the partnership as transformative: “With Baobab’s support, we are able to offer more than recovery, we are offering a pathway to dignity, independence, and a renewed sense of identity.”
As Deborah’s Haven opens its doors, it represents more than a programme, it represents possibility. A reminder that with the right support, every woman has the power to rise again, rewrite her story, and step into a future filled with hope.
