At a time when institutions worldwide face disruption and increasing demands for accountability, the conversation around ethical governance and sustainability has never been more urgent. In response, the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) today announced its 20th Anniversary Corporate Governance Conference, scheduled for October 9th, 2025 AT 10am in Lagos
Marking two decades of advancing governance standards, this milestone conference will celebrate the Society’s journey while convening regulators, board leaders, and industry experts to explore practical solutions for building resilient, future-ready institutions.
Themed “Strengthening Ethical Governance in a Disrupted World: Reflections on the Governance Journey for a Sustainable Future,” the event will spotlight Nigeria’s governance progress over the past twenty years while confronting today’s most pressing questions:
How can institutions remain resilient in the face of global disruption?
In what ways can leaders strike the right balance between innovation and accountability?
And how can ethics continue to anchor sustainable progress in a rapidly changing world?
Participants can expect insights from a distinguished lineup of speakers. Dr. Omobola Johnson, Former Minister of Communication Technology, will deliver the keynote on ethical leadership in a disrupted environment. She will be joined by Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General, SEC Nigeria; Mr. Temi Popoola, Group Managing Director/CEO, NGX Group and Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary/CEO, FRCN.
The panel session, moderated by Mr. Adedayo Amzat, CFA, Group Managing Director, Zedcrest Group, will feature forward-looking discussions with: Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy & Tax Reforms; Ms. Kim Anderson, CEO, Leadright Consultant (South Africa); Mrs. Yeside Kazeem, Director, Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance (NCGC), Ms. Omolola Oloworanran, DG, National Pension Commission (Pencom) and Mrs. Suzanne Iroche, Chairperson, Coronation Life Assurance Limited.
Together, they will address key issues such as fiscal reforms, regulatory compliance, cross-border practices, board effectiveness, and the role of governance in driving national economic revitalisation.
Through keynote addresses, panel dialogues, and sector-wide engagements, the conference will equip directors, executives, and governance professionals with actionable strategies for embedding stronger governance frameworks that can withstand disruption and inspire long-term trust.
Speaking ahead of the event, the CEO of SCGN, Mrs Chioma Mordi said “For 20 years, SCGN has remained steadfast in promoting ethical governance in Nigeria. This anniversary conference is not just a celebration of our journey, but a call to action for boards, regulators, and businesses to embrace accountability and resilience in a rapidly changing world. This year, we are also proud to have initiatives like the Corporate Governance Awards as part of our anniversary celebration, recognising institutions and leaders who have championed integrity, innovation, and sustainability in governance. These awards highlight the importance of celebrating progress while setting higher standards for the future.”
Also commenting on the importance of the conference, President of SCGN, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, said “Our 20th Anniversary Conference is a platform for thought leaders to shape the future of governance in Nigeria. We are bringing together some of the finest minds to provide practical insights that will strengthen trust, build sustainable organisations, and inspire the next generation of leaders. Importantly, conversations will extend to global trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities, and other disruptive shifts. These are increasingly reshaping boardroom conversations and strategies, ensuring that businesses remain competitive, ethical, and sustainable in the long term.”
The 20th Anniversary Corporate Governance Conference is more than a commemoration of Society’s journey; it is a reaffirmation of the Society’s mission to raise the standards of governance in Nigeria.
