Guinness Stout has launched a campaign ‘Fly with the Eagles’ targeted at selecting 200 consumers to be sponsored to South Africa in January for the 2013 African Nations Cup. The campaign is principally aimed at galvanising the passionate Nigerians to stand together with the brand to support the Super Eagles during the tournament.
At the unveiling of the campaign, Seni Adetu, managing director, Guinness Nigeria plc, who called on other corporate organisations to support the team, said “Guinness Nigeria is keeping faith with the Super Eagles as we have always done because we believe the team is not just made up of the 11 players on the pitch but also includes the 167 million people cheering their team on. As a company and a football-loving brand, we are convinced that we have what it takes to succeed at next year’s outing.”
The entire campaign, according to the Austin Ufomba, marketing and innovation director, Guinness, comprises the national consumer promotion, the campaign theme song, Guinness Fan Parks and an exciting engagement platform that will enhance deeper participation of fans and consumers alike.
According to Ufomba, the promotion to select winners to be sponsored to South Africa is cork based, as “consumers can enter into the promo by buying Guinness Stout; open the crown corks and text the code under the crown to 1759. Weekly draw winners will be announced all through the December 1, 2012 to January 31, 2012, campaign period. Asides grand prize, cash prizes are also up for grabs, with four consumers carting away cash prizes of N100,000.00 daily throughout the duration of the campaign, among other fantastic prizes.
“There is nothing as good as having your fans support you while you sweat it out on the pitch. We are extremely happy about the Super Eagles’ participation at the Nations Cup and are quite optimistic that it will be a wonderful outing. We are behind them all the way. It is also our greatest wish that they return home with the cup.”
The secretary general of the Nigerian Football Federation, Aminu Maigari represented by Mike Umeh applauded Guinness’ efforts in supporting the national team.
