Six Residents of Igbede-Ojo Receive ₦100,000 Each to Kickstart PoS Businesses Through MTN Y’ello Care Initiative

Hope and excitement filled the air in Igbede-Ojo, Lagos, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, as six rural community residents received ₦100,000 each to launch their mobile money businesses. The life-changing gesture came as part of MTN Nigeria’s 2025 Y’ello Care campaign, a corporate social responsibility initiative focused on digital and financial empowerment.

The six beneficiaries, all eager to start Point-of-Sale (PoS) businesses, were selected after participating in a hands-on financial literacy and inclusion training session facilitated by MoMo PSB. The training covered key financial management topics such as budgeting, saving, and investing, designed to give participants a solid foundation for sustainable entrepreneurship.

Each recipient had also taken the step to open and fund their MoMo account with at least ₦50,000, demonstrating both commitment and readiness to engage in the mobile money economy. As a reward for their dedication and vision, MTN awarded each of them an additional ₦100,000 to help them get started on their business journey.

The initiative, themed “Tuesday MoMo Market Storm,” also provided free MTN SIMs and MoMo account onboarding for dozens of other community members, while delivering structured training sessions to enhance their understanding of financial services and digital tools.

According to Omolara Michael-Nwadu, Chief Financial Officer of MoMo PSB, the initiative reflects MoMo’s broader mission to democratize access to financial services and empower underserved communities. “At MoMo PSB, we believe that true inclusion begins with access, access to knowledge, tools, and opportunity. Through initiatives like the MoMo Market Storm, we are bridging the financial gap for underserved communities and equipping them with the confidence and capacity to take charge of their economic future. This is how we drive sustainable impact, one empowered individual at a time.”

Earlier that day, Y’ello Care participants also took part in a guided visit to the Bayobab Cable Landing Station in Abraham Adesanya, Ajah. The session, led by Bayobab technical expert Edim Roberts, gave attendees rare insight into how Nigeria’s internet infrastructure connects to the rest of the world. The tour was coupled with introductory AI training that explored emerging technologies and their relevance to local and global economies.

The event forms part of MTN’s ongoing Y’ello Care 2025 campaign, themed “Connecting at the Roots: Digital Tools for Connected Communities.” The campaign continues this week with digital skills training, coding bootcamps, a skill exchange programme, and a community trade fair, all aimed at strengthening grassroots innovation and economic participation.

For the six new business owners in Igbede-Ojo, the day marked not just another corporate outreach but a turning point, one that offered a clear path toward financial independence and a better tomorrow.
